Hollywood Goes Religious, Again

Remember how I noted that Babel, a film about the divisiveness of language which took its title from the "Tower of," came out the day before Shabbos Parshas Noach?

Well, now comes The Reaping, a Hilary Swank vehicle about the ten plagues occurring in a small Southern town. It opens on the Friday of Pesach, of course.

Comments:
There's another old horror movie (circa 1975?) with Vincent Price I believe one of his last) and Joseph Cotton (most certainly his last), where the evil genius inflicts serial murders based on the 10 plagues and eventually dies in a self-made sarcophagus. I saw some of it recently on TV (AMC Classic Cinema). It was very quirky and I'd never heard of it before, something like "The Diabolical Dr. ______."

It was The Abominable Dr. Phibes, from 1971. (Thank you, IMdb!) And incredibly, it wasn't the last movie for either of them. Cotton died in the early 80's, and Price in the early 90's, after developing a friendship with Tim Burton (whose movie Ed Wood explores a similar relationship between the titular director and a late-in-life Bela Lugosi).
